#132 Ways to create a perfect time table to study

Posted Anish Popat on 18 May 2012 - 06:32 AM

Make a realistic time table for your study i.e. the time table should be one, which can be followed. If you have only 6 hours spare for study and you want to devote all those hours for self study or you have made a time table which can not be followed for a longer time, avoid that.

Make a flexible time table for study with some rigidity. For example, if you want to devote 2 hours daily for a particular subject, say science, then try to maintain the time of 2 hours everyday without fixing a rigid time.

Try to stick to your schedules. For example, If you have decided to devote a total of 5 hours for self study, try to stick to that and study at least that much.

The time table should be such that it is open to changes with time. After following the time table for few days, if you feel, overall time period or time period for a particular subject are improper then change them according to your requirements.

Initially, don’t make exhaustive time table for self study. Increase your study timings every week. For example, if you are studying 3 hours in a week, try to increase 15 minutes in first week, 15-20 minutes in next week and so on.

#130 How to score well in 10th and 12th

Posted Anish Popat on 18 May 2012 - 06:29 AM

Regarding scoring of good marks in Board Exams, it is not so difficult.
You have to stick to few important tips:

1. Firstly, study regularly, take out time for at least three subjects in
a day. Work more on those subjects, in which you feel you are weaker than other subjects.

2. Do not leave any subject for more than 2-3 days. Every subject should be taken up for study at least in every alternate day. The important and difficult ones may be taken up everyday.

3. Devote at least 6-7 hours for self study.
But do not cut down too much on your sleep and enjoyment. Take out a bit of time for relaxing and entertaining also.

4. Whenever you study, don't sit for too long continuously, you can also take one or two short breaks of 5-10 minutes during a continuous stretch of 3-4 hrs. of study.
This will help in maintaining your interest.

5. Be in touch with the CBSE previous years papers, sample papers etc. Keep on looking what has been the pattern of CBSE and what type of questions are generally asked. Also refer to their model answers.

6. Whenever you give a test in school and obtain marks, just go through your answer sheet seriously and see where marks have been deducted and how can the errors be avoided next time.

7. Take proper care of your health and hygiene. Do regular exercise, take more of green vegetables, milk and other nutritious food. Do not get tensed.

8. Although you must stick to NCERT books, but in science, maths, you must do some extra questions also. You can purchase a good book or question bank for that.

9. Be in contact with your teachers and ask them to evaluate yourself.

10. At the end of the year, do at least 8-10 model test papers for each
subject. This will help a lot.

Just keep working towards your Goal and keep on evaluating yourself.

Challenges are high, dreams are new,
The world out there is waiting for you,
Dare to dream, Dare to try,
No goal is too distant, No star too high..

How to Attempt the Question Paper

Tip # 1 - Reading and scanning the Question Paper in the first 15 minutes

Before you begin to attempt the paper, spend the first 15 minutes in reading the question paper as a whole. 5 minutes for reading the question paper 5 minutes for scanning the paper and last 5 minutes for planning how to start with paper. This will save a lot of time later. This will help you in determining how to answer the questions and which ones to go for first.

Read the question paper thoroughly and select the questions for which you have confidence that you can attempt them easily. It is advisable to start with the easy questions first and then attempt the harder questions.

Tip # 2 - Try Spending Average Time on a Single Question

If you will spend too much time on answering a single question, you will lose time for answering the remaining questions. So, it is better to leave the question which is tricky or taking too much time. Skip it and move on to the next question.

You can always comeback to that question later when you have time left after answering all the remaining questions. In this way you can make the best use of your time.

Tip # 3 - Answer according to the Marks Allotted to Questions

Before answering any question, look at the marks allotted to that question. Spend more time on the questions which are of 5 marks and less time on the questions worth 2 marks. In other words, allot time for each question on the basis of the marks allotted to the question.

However, some tricky questions may take longer than the time allotted to them. In that case you have to manage your time by spending less time on the easier questions.

Tip # 4 - Answer Relevantly  to the Questions

Make sure your answers are brief and to the point. Do not deviate from the topic and add any irrelevant information. This will not get you any extra marks. Before answering any question, read it carefully and write only the relevant points.

The way of presentation is also very important in the exams. So, write down your answers legibly and in an understandable manner. Underline the important points with a pencil or black pen.

Tip # 5 - Fix the Last 10 Minutes for Revision

Time management is very important for any examination. Try to solve the paper in such a manner that at least 10 minutes time is available to do a quick revision. Revise whatever you put down in the answer sheet.Make sure to minimize careless mistakes in the answers.

Careless mistakes often result in deduction of marks and this can be avoided by going through the answer sheet one last time before submission of the same.

#85 Things to keep in mind while writing the Exam

Posted rahuljain on 06 May 2012 - 03:52 PM

  • Attempt those questions first which you are confident of.
  • Never jumble up the questions order.
  • For example, if you are attempting a question from Section A, attempt all the questions from Section A first and then move on to the Section B and so on.
  • Try to explain your answers with examples and figures. If you are not confident of the theory, the examples and figures will help you fetch partial marks.
  • Draw a line ----- after every answer so that the paper looks clean and organized.
  • While attempting the questions where you have to mention the difference between the two, make sure the order of difference is not changed.
  • For example, when you are asked to mention the difference between 'Cat' and 'Dog', the table should contain the column of 'Cat' first and then 'Dog'.
  • Attempt the optional questions only if you are confident that you have sufficient time to answer the paper completely. However, attempting optional questions creates only light impression on the mind of the examiner.
  • Ensure that the Roll No. and additional details are mentioned correctly on the front of the answer sheet.
  • Please DO NOT CHEAT nor help others CHEAT. It won't do any good.

#403 IB or CBSE for class 12?

Posted soganisanat on 15 June 2012 - 05:07 PM

Greetings sir,
Being a student of the international board - "IGCSE" , I recently appeared for my 10th board IGCSE Examinations. I found the board really practical, interesting and above all, rewarding. Two years after choosing the IGCSE board, I am re-facing the dilemma of as to continuing with my existing decision or switching over back to CBSE for class 11th and 12th. I have a deep interest in both information technology and business management, equally and proportionally. My IB school offers business management but Design and technology is not yet introduced. Therefore for now, I have an  intention of completing a dual degree in these. I have heard that the IB acceptance has increased overtime in India but I am not sure if the board is as widespread in India as it is abroad still. I have not taken a decision over studying in India or going abroad but I am still slightly inclined towards studying in India as I think studies abroad could be too costly an affair when I have no intention of living abroad for the rest of my life. Please suggest me possible solutions.
Thanks in advance,
Sanat
